BABY EMERGENCY VEHICLE – Safe Transport for the Littlest Ones

The “Felix” baby emergency vehicle is one of the Björn Steiger Foundation’s most important projects. Developed to safely transport premature and newborn babies between hospitals, the vehicle has set standards in emergency medicine since the 1970s.
Premature babies should not be transported at all, if possible. However, many cannot receive adequate care at their birthplace and must be transported to a specialized hospital.
Our “Felix” baby emergency vehicle system ensures smooth and largely vibration-free transport.
When every second counts: The “Felix” baby ambulance is on hand.
Every year, around 640 premature babies have to be transported in Germany – often in regular ambulances that aren’t specifically designed for newborns.
🚑 The problem:
No special suspension → Shocks endanger the child.
Transportation parallel to the direction of travel → Braking acceleration is risky.
✅ The solution:
Our specially developed “Felix” baby ambulance system enables transverse transport, which significantly reduces the risk to newborns.

Our goal is to improve emergency care so that people of all ages receive the help they need. This applies to even the youngest children. That’s why we bring “Felix” to locations that have a Level 1 perinatal center and a particularly high transport rate.
💡 Important facts:
-The baby ambulance is not yet enshrined in the Emergency Services Act
-No funding from health insurance companies
-The Björn Steiger Foundation covers the costs, supported by donations and sponsors
-Service contracts cover ongoing costs such as fuel and insurance
Every donation helps keep the baby ambulance in operation!
