Who’s behind #heartsafe?
Heartsafe (Herzsicher) is an initiative of the Björn Steiger Foundation, the German Heart Foundation, and the German Football Association (DFB). Together with certified partners and trainers, we make CPR accessible to everyone.
How much does the training cost?
Our training courses are free for all participants.
What does the heart safety training cover?
CHECK – Check for unconsciousness and check breathing
Is there a response to loud shouting and shaking? Is the person breathing normally? Are there any breathing movements in the chest?
Caution: Gasping or wheezing is not normal breathing.
- Look
- Hear
- Feel
CALL – Call emergency services (if possible, through a second person)
Put your phone on speaker so you can answer questions and receive instructions. Begin chest compressions immediately!
PRESS – Continuous chest compressions
Press 100 to 120 times per minute in the center of the sternum, approximately 5 to 6 cm deep toward the spine. After each press, completely release the pressure without losing contact between the hand and the sternum. Continue chest compressions until emergency personnel arrive.
SHOCK – At least two rescuers required!
One person continues chest compressions while the other turns on the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and applies the pads to the dry torso. Follow the instructions of the voice computer.
Who can book a training session?
Clubs, companies, and private individuals – minimum 8 people and ages 12 and up.
How do I post a training advertisement?
Click “Book Training”
Provide the following information:
- Type of person
- Number of participants
- Desired location, date, and time
- Title for assignment
If not registered: Registration will take place in the next step
After confirmation: The advertisement will be published
Note: Training courses require a 14-day lead time.
How long does it take to place a training course?
Your listing will typically be assigned to a training company within seven days. If no placement has been made within five days, the Björn Steiger Foundation will actively assist in the placement process.
Can I change my training listing later?
Yes, as long as the training hasn’t been accepted by a company yet. If a training course has already been selected and you’ve received a notification, changes are only possible in consultation with the training company.
What happens if training appointments are canceled?
Cancellation: Please make this immediately via the booking platform. Additional contact with the training provider is required.
Deadline: At least 72 hours before the training date.
No-show: Reserves spots for other participants.
Who conducts the training?
The training is conducted by certified trainers.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes! After completing the training and providing feedback via a QR code provided by the trainer, the Heart Safe training certificate will be sent via email.
How long does the training last?
Between 45 and 60 minutes – compact and practical.
Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, yes or no?
Laypeople should avoid providing ventilation because:
- Many hesitate (disgust, uncertainty)
- Ventilation takes time
- Continuous chest compressions are sufficient initially
- More people help without ventilation
Therefore: Continue to press continuously until the emergency services take over or the person responds. Only pause briefly when prompted by the AED.
Can I use the training for my driver’s license/health insurance/DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance)?
Driver’s license: Not recognized as certified training for obtaining a driver’s license.
Health insurance: No reimbursement, as this is voluntary training.
DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance): Not DGUV-certified – special courses are required for recognition by the employers’ liability insurance association.
Can the training take place in my private home?
Yes, if this is desired, please indicate this in the comments field when booking. In this case, a discussion with the training provider is essential to clarify the on-site conditions.
